The extended service of foam, water and powder extinguishers is due either 5 years from initial commissioning or 6 years after manufacture, whatever comes first. The refurbishment of CO2 extinguishers is due after 10 years from the cylinder manufacture. In the case of the CO2 extinguishers it is irrelevant when the extinguisher was commissioned. Jeff I have a HVT Pyrene that has two pat numbers.2,347,548 & 2,573,320. The serial number is: No D-219120 And one that is not a HVT with 6 years of pat dates. 7, 1907, April 5, 1910, June 6, 1911, Dec 5, 1911, Dec 5, 1911 & Aug 20, 1912. Well I was really after dating the fire extinguisher what ever its original use. But my early 42 MB does in fact have a cup style bracket. 52 M38 2X, '52 M37, '44 WC51, '42 WC 56/57, '50 CJ-V35(U), '42 GPW, '44 M3A1 Scout Car, 2010 M-Gator.

Here's a theory for 'ya:
I've noticed that the early (one patent) Pyrene WW2 Heavy Vehicle Type decal-type FE I have has an 'S' prefixed serial/lot(?) number.
Two of the later brass tag (2 patent) H-V-Ts I have show 'U' prefixed serial/lot numbers...
I'm wondering if the prefix indicates the year

: S=1943, T=1944, U=1945 etc. This seems to correspond to the patent references. Two patents were effective in 1944, therefore one patent reference is certainly pre-'44. A decal-type military painted FE is certainly WW2 -- my guess beginning c.1942. I had a decal type two-patent HVT that went away recently. If it was a 'T' prefix I'd be willing to bet that it's more than coincidence. Further, I'm thinking that all brass tag, two-patent HVTs will be 'U' or higher prefixed (late/post war).Anyone have Pyrene HVT FEs they wish to check against this?
